Fourth Grade Realistic Fiction
In our first writing unit, students were tasked to create a realistic fiction story with a well-developed character and logical story arc. They implemented the strategies used by their favorite authors to create a character that was complex and had clear desires and obstacles. As they drafted, students used strategies from mini-lessons to show what their character was feeling instead of stating it directly and learned how to blend dialogue with description and action. They worked with a range of partners to help revise their stories–learning how to give and receive constructive feedback.
