The IB PYP Program of Inquiry

Program of Inquiry

PYP students learn about significant concepts through six units of inquiry. The themes that guide these units of inquiry are:

  • Who we are
  • Where we are in place and time
  • How we express ourselves
  • How the world works
  • How we organize ourselves
  • Sharing the planet

Inquiry has shown me a new way to learn and inspired me to be a lifelong learner.    -5th grade student

Our remarkable, highly trained and qualified faculty will empower students with the skills to:

• inquire, reflect, and think purposefully;
• enable their own learning, thereby developing an awareness of how they learn best;
• work collaboratively with others, thereby communicating effectively;
• appreciate and respect diversity, thereby facilitating open-mindedness;
• and have a desire to contribute to their local and global community.

The IB PYP Attitudes

Equally important to the core philosophy of THS is the recognition that children flourish academically and socially when they are part of a safe, comfortable environment in which they feel cared for and supported. We strive to recognize the whole child, acknowledging the unique gifts and talents that each brings to the community. The structure and practices of the IB provides us all with a framework that emphasizes the values of respect, integrity, open-mindedness, and compassion, among others.  The IB attitudes highlighted throughout our school community include:

• Commitment • Independence • Enthusiasm • Empathy • Tolerance • Appreciation

• Cooperation • Respect • Creativity • Integrity • Curiosity • Confidence
